Under the curatorship of prof. dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman (Kadir Has University), Akbank Art Istanbul welcomes Tahon’s fragile plasters and milky white ceramics. Akbank Art has become one of Istanbul’s most influential culture and art centre and has already given a platform to many internationally renowned artists like Wang Du, Martha Rosler, Jean-Jacques Lebel, Thierry Kuntzel, Erwin Wurm…

 

Kahraman describes Tahon’s sculptures as beings that are “pointing at the fact that the connections one has with life must be questioned within the boundaries of one's body as much as universally. Tahon treats the quest for transcendence in a tension that has its roots sunk deep into space”.

 

This is indeed what White Seeders is about. Tahon’s sculptures are both receptors and receivers. They are poetic mirrors that welcome you to join in their vulnerability and to reflect upon the place of the Self in the Universe. With every vessel they are oriented attentively towards their surroundings in every direction, they catch every subtle vibration in it, absorb it and reflect it back again, so the spectator is able to connect with them and join them in the space of their and our becoming, of our becoming-together. Every sculpture has the potential to spiritually seed comfort into the spectator and to alter his state of being, if only for one moment.

 

Tahon feels the need to protect the vulnerable seeders he creates and covers them with a glaze that has the feel of a soft milky white balm. This white glaze that still seems to be slowly dripping off of the sculptures, balms, cares, comforts. Not only does it protect the sculptures, it also protects the artist himself, who opens a piece of his own soul through them. The fluid white layer is welcoming and makes the spectator want to touch and caress the sculptures. It also indirectly reminds of bodily fluids like warm mother’s milk and semen. It wraps the mystical seeders in an erotic sphere.

 

Tahon is no longer a stranger to the Istanbul art scene. He exhibited there many times at Galeri Artist and had a solo exhibition, Hemisphere, in the Aya Irini, a 3rd-century Byzantine church in the courtyard of the Topkapi Palace, during ‘Istanbul 2010 - European Capital of Culture’. During the latest Istanbul Biennial he also got the opportunity to confront his work with ancient old ceramics in the Tiled Kiosk of the Archaeological Museum, in the solo show Archè. The Wall Street Journal called this show one of the highlights of the Biennial.

S.M.A.K. brengt met RAAK een educatieve, reizende tentoonstelling van RASA. Kunsteducatie is nooit vrijblijvende materie voor RASA. Het is een lange reis, laag per laag al spelend te ontdekken en lang nazinderend bij aandachtige kijkers…

Wat voelt zoals het leeft?

Wat voelt zacht en wat voelt koud aan?

Word je wel eens geraakt door de huid van een beeld?

 

Voor RAAK onderzoeken we wat ons raakt in de beeldende kunst van vandaag. We verlangen weer naar voelbare materialen en zijn op zoek naar echte ervaringen. Zulke ervaringen biedt Rasa met haar tentoonstellingen voor grote en kleine mensen.

 

Vandaag draait heel veel rond de digitale wereld waarin mensen met elkaar omgaan via computer, via sociale netwerken als Facebook of Netlog. Aanraken raakt meer en meer in de verdrukking. Hoe voelt gras aan? Hoe voelt steenkool aan? Hoe voelt kunst aan? In deze tentoonstelling onderzoeken we wat ons raakt in de hedendaagse kunst en waarom kunstenaars bepaalde materialen kiezen als taal. Door te voelen en te zien proberen we het zintuiglijke scherp te stellen.

 

In deze productie kan je werken ontdekken van deze kunstenaars: Panamarenko, Christophe Coppens, Johan Tahon, Maria Roosen, Tamara Van San, Koen Broucke, William Cobbing, Edith Dekyndt, Bart De Zutter, Arpaïs du Bois, Johan Gelper, Johanna Schweizer en Lucy and Bart.

Museum Beelden aan Zee herbergt een omvangrijke collectie sculpturen van wereldformaat. Het verzamelaarsechtpaar Scholten bracht de kunstwerken in een kleine veertig jaar bijeen. Maar liefst 150 hoogtepunten uit deze unieke verzameling zijn dit najaar te zien op de expositie 'Allemensen!'. Het mooiste uit de collectie Beelden aan Zee.

In deze expositie is werk te zien van o.a. Blickachsen is een internationale tentoonstelling van hedendaagse sculptuur die zowel aandacht heeft voor gevestigde waarden als voor jonge, veelbelovende kunstenaars. Ze vindt om de twee jaar plaats tijdens de zomer in de historische parken van Bad Homburg v.d. Höhe.
Bij elke nieuwe tentoonstelling biedt de specifieke plaatsing van de moderne werken in deze klassieke setting nieuwe perspectieven, zowel op de werken zelf als op de originele "Blickachsen", ofte "zichtlijnen", voor de tuinen ontworpen door de gevierde negentiende-eeuwse landschapskunstenaar Peter Joseph Lenné.
De rijke en steeds veranderende verhouding tussen het landschap en de kunst vormt de kern van deze unieke reeks tentoonstellingen, die snel een internationale reputatie heeft opgebouwd.

Dit jaar wordt Blickachsen gecureerd door Jan Teeuwisse, directeur van Museum Beelden aan Zee, Scheveningen (Nederland).
Johan Tahon zal aan de tentoonstelling deelnemen met twee monumentale polyesters sculpturen. Andere deelnemende kunstenaars zijn o.a. Tony Cragg, Joep van Lieshout, Dennis Oppenheim en David Nash.
